Messenger Pictures Auto usually refers to auto-saving or auto-downloading photos in the Facebook Messenger app. By default, Messenger does not save incoming pictures to your device’s photo gallery. You have to manually download each image unless you turn on specific settings.
There are two main automatic photo settings available in the application. Save on Capture
This feature automatically downloads any new photo you take using the built-in Messenger camera. Instead of losing the photo after you send it, the app instantly saves a copy to your phone’s camera roll. To turn this on:
Open the Messenger app and tap your Menu (three lines) or Profile icon. Tap the Settings (gear) icon. Scroll down and select Photos & Media. Toggle on Save on Capture. Auto-Save Received Photos
This feature automatically downloads pictures sent to you by other people. For privacy and encryption safety, Meta allows you to turn this on for individual, end-to-end encrypted chats. To turn this on for a specific chat: Open the conversation you want to save photos from. Tap the person’s name at the very top of the chat window. Look under the More actions section and tap Auto-save. Toggle on Save photos you receive.
The following step-by-step video demonstrates how to manage these permissions directly inside a chat window:
